The goal of the foundation is: - To actively support the Electronic Commerce standardisation work in the international transport sector. - To foster the development, the use and the application of international Electronic Commerce standards. - To encourage the use of those standards in the interchange of information amongst parties, both commercial and official, in the transport of goods and passengers within the European Union and with other international trading partners. BEST acts as a central point of co-ordination in order to achieve a harmonised input into the various standardisation processes, it is the focal point of information for the transport sector in the area of Electronic Commerce standards and developments, it harmonises Electronic Commerce standard implementations in the transport sector, and it provides an adequate liaison with the relevant departments of the European Commission on issues in the area of Electronic Commerce. BEST supplies technical, facilitating and administrative supports to the European EDIFACT Transport Group (EEG2) in the development, maintenance and harmonisation of EDI standards for the transport sector. BEST is the central European organisation for the European transport sector to actively co-ordinate its requirements with: - The requirements of the transport sector worldwide (in particular with the US). - The industrial sectors in Europe to ensure a harmonised approach to the application of Electronic Commerce standards.
