The activities and contributions can be divided into the following categories: The work on European EDIFACT standardisation The secretariat for the European EDIFACT transport group (EEG2), which meets 2 times per year; and participation in the eBES Workshop. Worldwide coordinating work within UN/CEFACT BEST supplies the Chair and the secretariat for the worldwide EDIFACT transport group (TBG3) and the ITIGG (International Transport Implementation Guidelines Group) which meets twice a year. The work on worldwide EDI implementation guidelines Europe with WETIGG (Western European Implementation Guidelines Group ) has taken the lead in developing detailed implementation guides for the use of transport EDI messages. The work on common EDI transport scenarios with the European industry sectors In a project called MIST (Multi Industry Scenarios for Transport ) with the other industries (EAN retail/distribution, automotive, steel, white goods, etc..) BEST is chairing a Group which defines business scenarios between shippers and transporters, including recommendations for best practices of applying EDI messages and automatic identification. Worldwide maintenance of transport codes BEST maintains a register of code lists for transport, is the central input for codes requests including UN recommendations. Liaison with standardisation committees BEST members participate in groups working on Electronic Commerce standards to ascertain a harmonised standardisation in areas as XML in the ebXML work through the UN/CEFACT Forum, Radiofrequency tags on containers...etc.
